László Ablonczy, MD is a graduate of Debrecen Medical University,Hungary. He qualified as a pediatrician in 1997 and started training in pediatric cardiology at the Pediatric Heart Center of the Gottsegen National Cardiovascular Center, Budapest. He spent 1 of his 3 years of training as a pediatric cardiology fellow at the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at Eppendorf University Hamburg. He qualified as a pediatric cardiologist in 2001. From this year he was appointed to lead the pediatric pulmonary hypertension service. He was involved in the organisation of the pediatric heart transplant programme, as part of which he worked for 1 year at the Heart and Lung Transplant Department of the German Institute Berlin in 2006. After his return from Berlin, he became the programme leader. He received professional awards (Hungarian Republican Gold Cross of Merit – 2008, Summum Bonum Award -2014) for its work in the pediatric htx programme. He is a member of the National Heart Transplant Waitlist Committee (2008-present) and the Transplantation Section of the Health Professional College (2012-present). Besides the pediatric htx and PAH service, he has been performing catheter interventions for 20 years. He is a regular lecturer in Semmelweis University, giving university lectures on paediatric cardiology in Hungarian, German and English. He is a member of the Board of several hungarian societies. His scientific field is pediatric htx és PAH, his PhD thesis is on „Treatment optimalization in pediatric PH”. He is a chief of Pediatric Heart Center, Hungary for 5 years.
