Research Interests. From the beginning of my research career I have been working on issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of children with inherited and acquired myocardial diseases. My specific research and educational interests include advances in the diagnosis and treatment of myocarditis and cardiomyopathy, and also children with heart failure, as well as the possibility of predicting the prognosis in these diseases and assess the risk stratification of sudden cardiac death and death from heart failure in children with cardiomyopathies. The objectives of my research have focused primarily on the use of the most recent methods of diagnosis of children with inherited and acquired heart diseases, which is necessary to: •determine the clinical phenotype of the disease, •implement optimal treatment, •innovative treatment of children with heart failure, •analysis of genotype and phenotype correlation in children with cardiomyopathies, •conduct genetic counselling and screening of the patient’s family, •execute risk stratification of sudden death and heart-failure related death in children with cardiomyopathies, especially in children with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Key words: cardiomyopathies, myocarditis, children, heart failure, sudden cardiac death, risk stratification, genetics, prognosis.
