After his residency in general paediatrics, a fellowship in paediatric cardiology and a PhD in clinical cardiovascular MRI, dr. Helbing has combined a clinical career as paediatric cardiologist with his research interest in ventricular function congenital heart disease. He has used MRI to study right and single ventricular function in children and young adults with congenital heart disease, and has been exploring the role of exercise training and biomarkers in these patients. He currently is professor in pediatrics at Erasmus University Medical Center and Sophia Children’s Hospital, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
